Over the weekend I taught my Black Magic calligraphy workshop in Portland, OR. Here are the highlights:
The class begins with painting in color charts and a color wheel with gouache. The first one is in progress.

Finished color wheel and chart:

Everyone in the workshop tests Pearl-ex pigments that I bring to demo:

Lettering done by a student (Sue) with souffle pens on glossy black card stock:

Experiments with Twinkling H20s:

Students’ lettering using Twinkling H20 watercolors:

Another example of lettering with the souffle pens on black:

At the end of class everyone puts their samples into an accordion book:

Here is what one of the students said about the class: “The common theme was to PLAY! we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as we experimented, oohing and aahing over the effects of color on dark paper.” The group was a pleasure to teach, and one of the highlights for me was that Barbara Getty was in the class! Saturday evening some of us had dinner with Gina Jonas, who came down from Seattle.

Wow! You are really getting into the “big leagues!” So, now you are traveling all over to do your classes? They look like so much fun. That’s wonderful!

It all looks amazing, stunning results and fun had by all. Such a shame there’s a big old pond between us.

Beautiful! Thanks for posting these pictures! Wish you were here on the east coast, though. Are you planning on coming to next years conference, Odyssey 2010, here in Massachusetts?

Hi, I see that you’re going to be in Indianapolis…where and how are sign-ups being handled? I was looking for a workshop schedule but couldn’t find one…thanks,
